This is it! Only one hour to go and I'm officially 40!

Many have asked if I'm nervous, sad, disappointed or afraid of turning 40. Hell NO...bring it on, I'm ready. On the drive home tonight, I was chatting with my BF and FunGryl4, Jill. She reminded me that we've been talking about me "turning 40" for...um..almost 5 years and now it's here. I'm celebrating tomorrow night with the people who have made a positive impact in my life.

I'm not sure why this is such a big deal for me. You know I love a good party, but it's more than that. No big party for my 30th. Plenty of fun times from 31-39 so why is 40 so important to me? If you have a thought, let me know.

P.S.
I still have until midnight tomorrow to complete my 40 new tasks. I have too done stuff! And you, my faithful readers ( I have three!) will get to read all about it when I'm done!

Tim believes the correct mentality is "I'm 40 dammit, and I can do whatever I want!" (a personal favorite)

Matt reminds me that, "You may only be young for a short time, but you can be immature for a lifetime" (Great advice no matter what the age)

Clamato + Bud Light = Bad. Very Bad.

Kids, do not drink this at home. Don't drink it anywhere. It is an awful, disgusting, gross drink. Why would the beer gods at Anheuser Busch create such a thing? Who the sam hell in product development said, "Hey, clam juice, tomato juice and beer sounds like a winner!"? Idiots!

I was dared to drink this. In my quest to experience new things before I turn 40, I decided to take on a dare and consume this obnoxious concoction. Mark one off the list. Blaahh!

Clearly, I'm not getting tickets to Oprah. Hey, I tried. I bet Ellen would want me on her show. I'm going to write her tomorrow!

You'll notice some of my posts include multiple tasks. Some of my friends (DD) are questioning my ability to complete 40 new tasks before I turn 40. Well, let me assure you, I will! In fact, big weekend (big weekend) coming up.

Enough of that. What did I do today? I made 5 new friends. Now, those who know me well, would call bullshit, because I make friends easily (and often) so this is not something new. Well, thanks to technology and my good friend Amy, I am now friends with 5 people I've never met before. You see, I'm going to Mardi Gras next year. I joined the KOE (Krewe of Elvis) in order to partake in all the appropriate festivities (really, to get in the parade). My new friends are all part of the KOE and we are communicating via my new addiction Facebook. In two weeks I will meet some of these folks in person at a meet up event in Chicago. When I do finally meet them all, it will feel like I'm connecting with old friends. Now, if Betty Beadwhore would just add me as a friend...

To help me stay young and hip, I've invited 12 of my daughter's friends to hang out with me for the night and join me on my 40 day countdown to the big 4-0! They think I am so cool. Really, who knew 12 year old girls were SO smart? I mean, I did, well, back when I was twelve myself. I ruled middle school (in my head anyway). These girls think I'm funny and cool and they just want to hang out with me. One 12 year old in particular is MORTIFIED! I've been banished from my basement , clearly because of my daughter's jealousy. Whatever Z! Get over it!! Your mom is SOOO cool. Geesh, you'd think it was your birthday slumber party or something...gaahh!

I've never had so many teenagers in my house at one time and Lord help me, I hope never again. This is one new adventure that truly is a challenge. Bring on the wine!

I did not have a date with a Frenchman, but I did spend a lovely afternoon sipping coffee in a French art gallery in Saugatuck. The place is called Affordably French. Go check it out! Not on my 40 items, but definitely on my to do list was finalize location and details for the big bash! I'm getting excited!! It's going to be an AWESOME party. Invitations should be out by the end of the week.

Will Oprah Take Pity?

I tried the no speeding thing again today. No go. No! Wait! It was go, go, go. My friend Sammy sang it best, "I can't drive 55!"

Today, I applied online for tickets to Oprah. As I was researching Oprah.com trying to figure out a way to get on the show, this magical box appeared announcing tickets are available next week! Oh, it might be my year!!! After completing the profile, I had to tell them why (in 2000 words or less) I should be in the audience. Do you think my story below will increase my chances? I'm sure the production team will love what I wrote.

On Monday October 13, the 40 day countdown to my 40th birthday began. Turning 40 is a great reason to celebrate and I'm doing it in a style true to myself, "Going big or going home". Over the next 40 days, I will tackle one task each day that I have never accomplished in my life. Most of the suggestions have come from friends and family. One of my personal goals is to get tickets to the Oprah show. I have been a fan of Oprah for a long, LONG time (let us not mention how many years...I'm a bit sensitive..turning 40 and all, you know!)

The Countdown Begins!

It is official! Today marks the 40th day until my 40th birthday. What a great couple of weeks it is going to be. I continue to get awesome ideas from you. I received two very odd suggestions today. My friend Maggie suggested I go goose hunting with her dad. Nope, can't say I've ever done that before so it will make my list. Can't say it will get on the completed list! Jill suggested I grab a pillow and a blankie for a little nap at our local Art Van furniture store. Not sure I could keep a straight face doing that one. What are your ideas?

So, what DID I do today? I attempted to drive the speed limit (ridiculously crazy idea, Sis) and failed miserably. When I became aware, in my car, that I should pay attention to my odometer and keep it at the posted limit (whatever!) I was doing 42 in a 30. Great job, Jen!

I am also starting a classic novel today. Wuthering Heights and Madame Bovary are currently in hand. Which one will I choose?

Monday starts the countdown clock to my 40th birthday!! Two things...
1) Mark your calendar for Friday November 21st. There WILL be a party!
2) Help me thing of 40 daily adventures I can conquer before the big day.

On each of the 40 days leading up to my birthday, I will do something new! Please share your ideas. I have a very fun list started thanks to my good friends (and a couple of bottles of beer!), but I want an even bigger list. You know me, if you can't go BIG....(yeah..um..I forgot the rest of the saying). Whatever! Just send me ideas.

Oh! I forgot to mention that since I'm the birthday girl and it's ALL ABOUT ME I reserve the right to reject any idea - especially if it will land me in jail or cause bodily harm. The idea of a bail bonding party doesn't sound too fun.

Remember back in the 80's when MTV was the coolest thing ever? What ever happened to the days of watching videos? Come on...some of my best dance moves came from the musical television channel. The headbanging move (thanks Bon Jovi & Poison). Who doesn't love to try any and all of Janet Jackson's moves? Can I get a "hell yeah" for Pat Benatar's 'Love is a Battlefield'? You know you tried to "Walk Like and Egyptian".

Now we get stupid reality shows, inappropriate game shows (seriously...when did I get old??) and crap like The Hills. I think the recent VMA's did me in. The only move I'm doing now is blocking the channel.

I have a serious problem. It is not an everyday thing. Not even monthly, but when I get the urge, I binge...big time. I had to restrain myself today. Going overboard would have been way too easy. A hard, fast fall. You see, this time of year is especially hard. Everywhere I look there it is...staring me down, begging me to indulge. "Go ahead. Just one. It won't kill you". But it will hurt me. Well, my pocketbook. I have this strange, sorry addiction to school supplies. Pens and notebooks do me in every time. The notebooks are so pretty nowadays. Yes, I got excited about the Trapper Keeper when it first came out, but that can't hold a candle to the delectable, decorative notebooks that are out there today. Walk to D'Feet ALS

The ALS walks came up fast on me. Without internet service I have not been as proactive and leadershippy as I had hoped to be. But they are here now!

So, who is walking and who isn't? I need to make sure everyone has t-shirts. I just went through a quick round of ironing Saturday to get us ready for the Portage walk. That team has grown quite a bit this year. That's fun to see. Mom is very excited about that. I'm excited that I'll be able to participate in the Walk with my mom for the first time in the 5 years that we've been walking. My dad even told Matt that he wanted the whole family to be there this year. I think they may actually attend.

They are doing a picnic again this year. The added bonus is that Outback is bringing steaks to grill for us in GR. I haven't had much response from (potential) team members this year other than those who registered on the walksite. (Thank you.) So I really have no idea how many people we'll have and if we'll be doing the picnic. If you have any input, let me know. I'd be happy to follow up with people who have mentioned wanting to walk but haven't followed through. I just don't know who those people are.

House update

It's Labor day weekend, and I have labored. I started cleaning things up on Friday. I got a lot done. There was still a lot to do. Travis and I were going to lay the tiles in the bathroom on Sunday but when it came right down to it, neither one of us was confident enough to make the cut. ...and there are a lot of cuts. So Rod is coming over on Tuesday night to walk us through it.

Todd and Jim (realtors) are coming over later in the week to do their mini-appraisal and market analysis. There's still some cleaning and organizing to do upstairs to make it presentable. I hope to have it on the market by mid September. I'll list it for 3 months and see what happens.

That's it. More later as things progress.

Fun in the Sun?

Well, so much for fun in the sun. Hurricane Katrina is making her presence known in central Florida. This should be fun! Not sure what to expect, except for a bunch of rain. Don't worry...I'm keeping a positive attitude. I will not get pissy while I'm down here ;-)

Arthur Update

I talked to Arthur yesterday for a few minutes. He has the AZUWISH license plate now. Very fun. Like me, he wonders what took him so long.

He is now planning to go to Kendall. He'll be starting their Interior Design program next August.

He sounded good. Very upbeat and excited about school.

Big weekend

Aaah...a big weekend ahead of us. I have tomorrow off, which is a beautiful thing. LOVE those short weeks. The return of hockey will be official tomorrow and we can finally see what our roster will start to look like. This has been a source of some tension for me. I don't know if any of you have noticed that or not. :-) We've got the 3DD concert tomorrow and hopefully a little bit of Ikea action. Yee freakin' haw. I'm finally getting my front bumper painted after some fartknocker hit me. So, now I can sell my vehicle and get more than 16mpg. Okay - does anyone know someone that would like to buy my Trail Blazer? OR - does anyone have any suggestions on what I should buy next because it will have to be spectacular because I love my truck.

And then Margatini. Should be a hoot. Can't wait to see some people that I have not seen in quite awhile. And I can't wait to see some people that I see all the time but I love them. Good peeps (see the hand motion). Good fun. Really looking forward to the weekend.

Now, on a sad note. Had anyone noticed that summer is half over already? Grrr.

Margatini is just a few short days away and I can't wait! I can't believe I didn't want to continue on w/ Margatini this year. Thank God for Ross and Laura thinking they wanted to have a pig roast this year. So glad we are combining the events and bringing more people together. Jill said it seems like this year Margatini has really caught on. I want a successful event. All fun. No drama. No destruction of property. Then maybe Ross & Laura will want to host at their house next year too?!? The pig roast is a GREAT idea. AND.........(dramatic pause...with appropriate hand gesture) I will kick ass in bocce ball this year!

Hello Ladies - and any gentlemen reading for the fun of it.

I finally had some time to look at this and figure out what I'm doing. I think I need to get internet at home again. I just don't have time to do this kind of thing at work.

So here's my happenings.
We are registered for the ALS Walk. Thanks E!! Sent the email to last year's team. Updated the team pages and my personal page. Now we just need to get more walkers registered and people donating.
Golf on Thursday was fantastic for me. I love my new clubs. I'm finally getting to a point where I don't need to think so much about not lifting my head and I can focus on the gajillion other tips I've been receiving. (appreciate all the tips don't get me wrong, just can't remember all of them)
Looking forward to Margatini. Wish I could say I'm looking forward to the cruise. Sure you've all heard by now that I am not going. I'm bummed but it's the grown up, responsible decision to make right now. You'll all have a blast though!!

Hey Mojo - I'm posting too - just no one else. What's wrong with these people? I had the pink and purple balls too - except I lost them all (and almost a shoe) in one round of golf at Cedar Creek. I thought they were too hard to find and those "dry" creeks are deceptive. Note to self: "Don't go after a ball in the creek. It's not worth it".

A lovely time at Walgreen's ladies. We should do it more often. At least Jen found hair for me. Unlike Missy, I may actually take Jen's advice. I feel like cutting my hair. Hey! How about this? I'm bloggin'!! I may have finally figured this out. I'm very proud of me. I know...it's not that difficult. But, it's harder when I have to work from a computer that is not at home and watch my back so that no one at work sees me bloggin'. But, I like it. Where's the other Fun Gyrlz!? Come one, blog to me. Great idea Dan! Thanks for setting this up.

I don't have much to report. It's Friday, so my work week has begun. Certainly looking forward to working more human hours again at some point in the future. It's bad enough when the weather is crummy, but in the Summer this schedule truly stinks. Oh well. Only temporary. Need to get through school and then on to something more/better.

Speaking of work, time to get back to it.
